Actress and former Nominated Member of Parliament Janice Koh grew up in a working class family. With two working parents, she and her two younger siblings were brought up by her Hokkien-speaking grandmother. As a child, Janice had little to no exposure to the performing arts. Janice’s father did shift work and would take her to the library on his afternoons off. “Most of the time, I would run out of space on my library card,” says Janice. Her father too, is a prolific reader, and this fuelled young Janice’s love for literature, and eventually the theatre.
