Parents often sling a camera along on family days out in the hopes of capturing those noteworthy moments of their children, but realistically, most flounder with nothing to show for at the end of the day. For some, they turn to expensive photography gear, yet from experience, it is clearly much more than just splurging the dough. Just ask Iwona Podlasińska, a self-taught photographer, who turned her hobby into a career in photography; having spent the past year photographing children (her own and others) and organising workshops for other like-minded photographers, little talks to the mother-of-two on how she has mastered the art of children photography and scaled new heights with her art.

It may come as a surprise but Iwona did not plan for a career as a child photographer. As all moms do, she wanted a collection of photos of her children as a keepsake but aspired for something a little more extraordinary. Somewhere in 2014, Iwona had fallen in love with the works of a few famous child photographers online and dedicated the next few days learning how to take similar photos that emphasised on light, composition, mood and tone to capture those breath-taking moments of childhood.
